Vientiane city is filled with remnants of historical and cultural significance. From the once destroyed temples such as Pha That Luang to some of the most fascinating structures such as Patuxai, the bustling city provides a great combination of the old and new that produces the unique charm of Vientiane. But not far from the capital city is the Vientiane province, a beautiful natural landscape that provides exciting adventures such as kayaking and rafting in Vientiane.

Most adventure activities start from a place called Vang Vieng found in the Vientiane province and is about 4 hours away from the capital. Although trekking is the most common activity in Vientiane, the province also offers kayaking and rafting adventures as well.

The Vang Vieng experience is a tour that combines all kinds of activities that Vang Vieng is popular for, one of which is kayaking along the Nam Song River. The river is surrounded by rocky karst, beautiful countryside scenery and many limestone caves. Visitors will get a kick out of swimming in pools filled with fresh spring water as they kayak their way around the river.

The Secret Eden tour on the other hand consists of one or two days of trekking, caving and kayaking across the 1500-meter long ridge of Vang Vieng. The ridge is so remote that not even the locals know much about it. But the beauty of the Limestone Mountain is something that must be seen to be believed.

For those who are looking for an exciting trip but are short on time, an exciting alternative will be kayaking between Vientiane and Vang Vieng. The Nam Lik River is one of the most scenic rivers in the northern Laos region, making it perfect for those who want to experience wonderful kayaking in a short amount of time.

For the more serious adventure travelers, the Phou Khao Khuoay Challenge may be the tour for you. The Phou Khao Khouay is a National Protected Area about an hour away from Vientiane. Aside from beautiful waterfalls and great scenery, the trail offers ever green forests filled with abundant wildlife. Participants not only need to kayak their way around the tour but they also need to cycle and trek through the vast landscapes of the area.

Also departing from Vientiane is the Nam Hinboun River expedition that lets explorers trek, kayak and long tail boat to the rivers of Khammouane to visit the limestone mountain caves. The tour lasts for four days in the remote countryside as you will explore forest trails, caves and many archeological sites.

Finally, if caves are your place of interest, the Kong Lor Cave Adventure takes you through the 7.5 kilometer-long Nam Hinbourn up until the cave of Konglor. It is the longest and most spectacular cave in Laos and is up to 70 to 80 meters in length. Cave, cycle, trek and kayak your way in to explore the darkness and small spaces of the cave as you will be amazed by how clear and spectacular the water inside is.

Most kayaking and rafting tours are provided by Green Discovery Laos, which is the country’s pioneer in Ecotourism and Adventure Travel. Explore the great outdoors of Laos by kayaking and rafting in Vientiane as you open your senses to a whole new perspective that the country offers.
